MIAMA, FL – October 22nd has been declared the National Day Against Police Brutality and while in Atlanta, GA Pete and I attended one of these rallys. Being a victim of the war on drugs myself, police brutality is an issue close to my heart and I was excited when this event was put on our radar. I thought we’d get to hear folks advocating for privatizing protection and how the current system, one with a monopoly on force, will never hold those with badges accountable nor will it stop the brutality that comes with it. I thought for sure we’d hear people expressing their displeasure for the war on drugs and caging people for victimless crimes.
Instead we heard people who blamed drugs for the problems of the police, advocated violence and thought voting for politicos would solve all the issues – for the most part. To me, the issue of police brutality will never be solved. Police are people and people make bad choices all the time. It’s how you hold those who protect you accountable and with no competition in the industry of protection nothing will improve. Being able to effect a businesses bottom line (profits) is a direct, peaceful, way to hold those who are abusive accountable. I strongly encourage people to check out this Wiki page on private defense agencies or this post I wrote about private vs public policing on CopBlock.org.

Hi:
I would like to network with people against police brutality. And that on all levels. I referring to the officers that put on that badge and use it to target and abuse their priviledge as an officer. They target people of a lower social class. Whether they target the individuals driving a older model car or if the driver is of a certain color, age, sex or demeanor. I have lived in NC for several years and since living here, I have experience years of being targetted. I was recently told that our community would be experiencing more profiling due to economic changes. We as a community can not stand it. We are already drained from limited resources. Our courts is filled beyond capacity with lower class people. If we can bridge this gap and find out our rights I would appreciate your assistance and information. .
