Justice For Michael Nida II, An Innocent, Unarmed, Husband and Father of Four, Murdered by Downey PD on October 22, 2011.

Published On January 20, 2012 | By CopBlock | Articles

I just found your website and I’m very interested in connecting with you, your events and sharing information about what is happening in Downey, CA.

Michael Nida was a close friend of my husband and I and he was murdered by Downey Police on October 22, 2011. We have been working together with Michael’s family, many more friends and loved ones, to obtain Justice for his unjust murder. Michael Nida was an innocent, unarmed, loving Husband and Father of 4 and the Downey Police murdered him with an MP5 machine gun, just as they did Gonzalo Martinez back in 2002!

Michael Nida: Authorities Admit Wrong Man Fatally Shot by Downey Cops Who Were Looking For Robbery Suspect

Two of the four homicides committed in Downey this year were committed by on-duty Downey Police Officers in October 2011. We need to put an end to this horrible epidemic, so as to insure that nothing like this ever happens again!

We are attending every scheduled Downey City Council meeting to speak out against this injustice and demand change! The meetings are located at 11111 Brookshire Avenue Downey. CA 90241. We welcome all of the positive support we can get!

Excuse my language, but what in Hell was a police department doing with an MP5? That just goes to show that police departments are becoming more and more paramilitary organizations. This needs to stop right now! The cop that murdered this unarmed man needs to be charged, tried, and sent to prison, preferably for life.

If I was being threatened by police officers carrying automatic weapons I would sure as hell try and run away too.

Haven’t met a cop yet who didn’t threaten violence as the first thing out of their mouth.

  • Tanya

Tragic abuse of lethal force. Maybe try to get with this group to see if more attention can come to your story – especially since it happened on October 22nd.

If somebody tries to kill you, kill them right back. Cop or not. These asshats are right out of the military; they are trained that everyone who does not belong to their gang is the enemy; they are just waiting to use ‘lawful’ lethal force.

    Just kill them first.

The Downey pd is a private company: http://www.manta.com/c/mmn78y3/downey-city-police-dept

    Sue the actors individually.

Ask a private attorney general for assistance.

    Study and learn.

From what I have read, he matched the descrip. of a suspect. He was ‘contacted’ by the police twice and fled both times. I didn’t really find an article the described the shooting. Something about him not showing his hands and acting ‘like a wildman’ or something to that effect. Time will tell. If it is a ‘bad shoot’ then there is a process. I did read he was not shot in the back.

And as far as Downey being a ‘private’ company, not sure what your going for but since you pose it like a riddle, its a laughable leap. Its public, and you can ‘sue’ a bacon sandwich so I’m not sure what your after but you’ve lost me….

Having lived in Downey for decades, I am all too familliar with how the Downey Police profiles based upon race, and outward appearances. To equip this nefarious criminal enterprise with weaponry such as the MP5 is negligent considering that these officers are obviously incompetant, undertrained, and downright malicious. They had ample opportunity to use less than lethal force, to react upon facts not feelings, and to follow proper protocol to detain their “suspect”, but chose instead to take an innocent man’s life. The police admit Mr. Nida had not been involved in the alleged armed robbery, that they had killed an innocent, unarmed man. It infuriates me that this cowardly thug in a uniform is at home getting paid after commiting this heinous crime. MURDER. He should be prosecuted as any one of us would be. Please take a moment of your day to sign the petitions, to attend a council meeting, and march for JUSTICE FOR MICHAEL NIDA!

@commom sense: Use some common sense and go to the link and see for yourself. The pd is listed on Dun and Bradstreet as a private company. Sue the actors, as they are nothing more than subcontractors. Case law backs that statement, btw.

    Study and learn.

@ common sence, Michael Nida was shot in the back while running from the police. They initially said he matched the discription, but we later found out he really did not. There were 2 suspects both black males with black hoodies on. Michael was hispanic and had on a collard shirt. Using a semi-automatic shotgun on a busy street is just insane and unnecessary. If the police needed to stop him they could have and should have used other means to do so. There was no need to kill him.

Let me get this straight: Michael Nida was initially detained by Downey PD because he matched the description of a bank robbery perp. He then was able to flee and was recaptured and subsequently again. Upon multiple commands by the police, Mr. Nida refused to comply and made furtive and sudden movesresulting in the police using lethal force.

I do not see what the issue is. If a person runs from the police…twice, what are the hiding? No one from the Nida family has answered why he twice fled and refused to obey the commands of a peace officer. The reason they can’t is that he wasn’t the lilly white victim he is painted to be. The D.A.’s office cleared the Downey PD in the shooting. I only hope that the civil trial further vindicated the City of Downey and its Police Department. I’m so tired of thugs moving in to West Downey and acting like fools.
