Actually it turns out that Derrick Jones wasn’t totally unarmed: he did have marijuana and a scale in his hand. This goes to show that the failed war on drugs is dangerous to police who execute drug raids and to citizens who are murdered for ingesting a substance of their choice. (Full article)
Something about the police report doesn’t sit right with me. Who would run away from police with their hands in their waistband while trying to jump a fence? What is very common for people in possession of this dangerous plant, is to reach into their pocket in an effort to discard their paraphernalia before the police catch up to them. All too often that rational action leads to Tasing, beating or death at the hands of police. Should people have to discard certain possessions of theirs out of fear that others are going to kidnap, assault or kill them?

This man was shot in cold blood by 2 vicious assholes. They were originally chasing him because his GF accused him of beating the shit out of her. They knew he was a convicted felon and used this to their advantage.
The pigs thought he was drawing a gun? Please…..there is a distinct difference between a gun and a scale. Further…the cops didnt want to release any information having to be grilled for days afterwards before they admitted he had a scale and not a gun.
The oakland thugs in costume covered this up real good and the alameda DA’s office is complicit. Remember that this is the same DA that didnt even think about charges against the BART officer who killed a man until the video surfaced.
Police are not a special class of people with rights that nobody else has. If they can use that standard of “fear for their safety” to justify shooting someone, then so can everybody else!
I guess next time I see someone running away, and they put their hands near their pockets, I can shoot them. Out of fear for my safety, of course.
