Rochester, NY, Monroe Community College Campus Security officer Gregory Buttman Assaults Student after Pulling him Over

By Davy V.

On Wednesday September 26, 2012, Jumoke-Gyasi Vieux a 22 year old African-American student at Rochester, NY’s Monroe Community College, had just finshed a day of classes with his girlfriend Shavonte Barfield.

As Jumoke was driving Shavonte’s car, he came to a stop near MCC’s exit A, when he noticed an MCC Campus Security car behind him.

At first he didn’t think much of it, as it’s common to see MCC Security vehicles on campus.

As he turned onto East Henrietta Rd., it was then that he noticed the security vehicle was following him and had its lights flashing.

Looking for a safe place to pull over, he made a right onto a small access road next to the college.

What happened next is not only disturbing, but makes one ask the question — Just what kind of individuals are being hired by colleges as security officers?

“Before I was able to bring the car to a complete stop, he was running and punching the car, it was loud bangs, I mean he was punching the rear and trunk of the car hard with his fists,” said Vieux.

The man Jumoke-Gyasi Vieux is referring to, is MCC Campus Security officer Gregory Buttman.

After Buttman punched Shavonte Barfield’s 2009 Honda Civic so hard that he left dents on the car, he then came up to the driver’s door and started pulling on the door latch.

He was screaming “Open the fucking door, open the fucking door, I was so scared,” said Shavonte Barfield.

When Vieux opened the door, Buttman immediately grabbed him by his arm and pulled him out of the car, then slammed him into the side of the car.

Buttman then punched Vieux in the face.

Jumoke Vieux said he couldn’t believe how upset Buttman was.

“He was so angry, I mean this guy has issues,” said Vieux.

Vieux said he had no choice but to defend himself against what he called a completely unprovoked attack.

Jumoke Vieux says that a passerby stopped his car and rushed over, but ended up helping the security guard instead of him.

Vieux was pepper sprayed and slammed face first into the street pavement, where Buttman handcuffed him.

Vieux suffered injuries from the assault, including contusions to his head from hitting the street.

Jumoke Vieux’s Nutrition Professor Mrs. Gleason, whose class, Vieux had just left minutes earlier, was driving behind Vieux and witnessed an angry Buttman punching the car.

Perhaps what is most disturbing here is that even though Vieux was the victim of an overzealous, out of control wannabe cop security officer, he ended being charged with failure to stop for a stop sign, failure to yield right of way to an emergency vehicle, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.

Vieux was arraigned in Brighton Town Court and released on $500 bail.

Friday September 28, 2012 is supposed to be Gregory Buttman’s last day working at MCC.

He is expected to begin working for the Fairport, NY Police department.

Attempts to reach MCC’s director of campus security David Moore, who just so happens to be the former Rochester, NY Police Chief, were unsuccessful.

On Friday morning, I called the Fairport, NY Police department and spoke with “Barb”, a secretary, who asked me “Why do you want a comment?”

I explained to her that since Gregory Buttman is a new Fairport, NY Police officer, the community, especially Fairport residents have a right to know what the Fairport Police has to say about this incident.

The secretary told me “Police Chief Maureen Chisholm will call you if she sees fit.”

She never did.

Updated Wednesday October 3, 2012:

Exactly one week later, no one, including Fairport, NY Police department Chief Maureen Chisholm ever returned my calls.

Dude, these half-stories of yours are doing more harm than good to the cause. This one has things that scream out for attention. Like why would a passer-by decide to run over and help a cop who was beating the crap out of somebody? That makes no sense at all, it just makes the story sound completely one-sided. It makes it impossible to judge if any wrongdoing actually happened. It would make more sense had the cop pulled the kid out, started beating on him, the kid began fighting back, and then a passer-by came over and helped out. But for some reason the part about the kid doing anything is missing.

  2. shawn says:

Ordinarily this would be a difficult story to judge. But if the professor saw the piglet hitting the car, then there is at least some truth to the claim of excessive agression. ‘Roid rage, anyone?

Sounds like a future lawsuit for the city police.

  3. Chris Mallory says:

So, was Buttman a sworn peace officer or just a security officer? The charges make it seem that he was a sworn officer. What color were the lights on his car? Blue/red or amber?

Is Davy V. Cuban or American? You can’t be both.

“Is Davy V. Cuban or American? You can’t be both.”

The concept of dual nationality means that a person is a citizen of two countries at the same time.

First of all MCC Peace Officers are cops. 6 months of Police academy (So Get your facts straight)
I know about this story..im going to tell the unbiased story. Officer attempts to pull over driver on Campus for a traffic infraction. Driver ignores the officers attempts and pulls off campus thinking he won’t be followed. After driver pulls over (no longer on the campus) officer approaches car and driver starts pulling away. Officer then hit the car with his hand..to get drivers attention. Driver was not responding to the officers demands..by refusing to open the window. Officer attempted to open the door. Which was locked. Driver then became upset opened the door and stepped out of the car and punched the officer twice on the side of the head. The officer took him down and used the force allowed by law. Not excessive like Davy V wishes to portray. Driver was then arrested. Word of advice…if an officer pulls you over…then stop. Don’t be a fucking idiot and try to make yourself a victim. If the girlfriend was so scared maybe she should of told her boyfriend to do as the officer said. Now that sounds a little less biased and more factual, don’t you think?

  8. John Q Public says:

Davy V should start writing for the Onion.

  9. WOW says:

First….his last name isn’t BUTTMAN, you should start by correcting that. Your incomplete story is a joke. You are talking about wanna be cops, when youre a wanna be journalist. You should tell the whole story. The fact is, the driver attempted to drive away, which is why the COP banged on the car. The driver assaulted the officer, which then the officer took him down. You sound like an idiot stating they helped the cop instead. How many times have you heard or seen a bystander jumping in to fight a cop? You all who are calling them wanna be cops, read the sentence, he went to work for a police department….are they hiring Joe Shmos off the street or do you think it requires special training?? Get your facts straight.

I Did Security there, and studied many things at MCC. This makes me sick. Im ashamed to say I Did Security there..

  11. You Are A Clown says:

As a resident of the Village of Fairport, I am very proud that the Fairport Police Department will be hiring an officer that will protect us from people like this. Your version of this event failed to mention that this idiot punched the officer in the face first. By the way, for how much the author of this posting boasts about himself, I would think it would have been better written. My 8 year old child could author something more educated that this piece of work. Please enlighten us with a well thought out reply please. . . That means I would like to hear more of your stupidity if you did understand my lack of educated thoughts.

  12. I Love Fairport says:

I am also glad the Fairport Police will be employing this officer. It will keep the city scum out of our picturesque community. It sounds like the officer was just doing his job, no matter how much the writer tries to “church” up his version of the events.

  13. John Calvin Jones, PhD, JD says:

I would be nice to see the incident report and an affidavit from Vieux and any other witnesses. Just as an aside, what was the basis for the stop? Why would a cop, on a college campus, order someone OUT of the car? In the best light for the cop, he must have suspected the driver of just having committed a felony and or engaged in a plan to commit a crime. Recall, Mapp v. Ohio.

  14. John Q Public says:

Davy V isa Dick, thank you. The truth comes out after all. Yet another work of fiction posted by Davy V. I think he is just trying to inflame people. But when he writes such obvious BS stories and edits legitimate stories the way he does, it ruins the credibility of all the stories on this site.

  15. Davy V isa Dick says:

No, John Q Public…I’m just another brain dead American. Davy V is showing us the facts. I was kidding.

  16. John Q Public says:

I’m wrong. I’m very sorry for following Copblock like I’m important or changing the beliefs of the many who visit the site. My morals are tacky like my character. I’m so sorry to all for not defending the abused but generalizing some kind of good for this group of people who defy the laws they claim to protect.

  17. Davy V says:

I am a moron, but I’m just trying to fit in and make a name for myself in the Rochester area. Just like the rest of the political leaders in this area. I would rather slander the good names of those who would risk their lives to save mine than appreciate them. I hope that someday when I may need help that the officers don’t be hating on me because of me taking advantage of my rights as a USA citizen & running my mouth for a dollar! I will always Side with evil because that’s where the money is. So for all you cops out there, I’m watching the good you do for the community but be prepared for something to read when you take a dump later.
Keep reading & posting… And I keep getting paid!

    Love to all!
    Davy V!

    I am so smart. I am so smart. S M R T, I mean S M A R T.

  19. Marie says:

I have to completely agree with Davy. This County is so biased and racially integrated it is disgusting. Until something bad happens to one of those Soccer moms then they will continue to praise these criminally motivated Cops. I am just going to try and hurry and finish my school work C’s or not and get the hell out of Rochester. I’m sick of racism.
