Found this gem

Two very different police recruitment videos: One wants citizens to serve the community. The other looks like a Navy SEALs recruitment video. Like they are trying to appeal to the thugs.

    Very different. I think police and police departments that want us fear them deserve what they get. It’s sure not going to be respect.

    I’m still trying to figure out how the tail comes in. Are you saying SEALS have tails?

  • Shawn

    @thundered

    No, but every word from a cop’s mouth is a tail. A tall one.

    I would love the LEO spin on this one.

  • Shawn

    @thinkfreer dang auto correct.

  • Wicked Vet

    Like the article, but lets get certain things straight. Grammar is the difference between knowing your shit, and knowing you’re shit. Tail is what an animal has and tale is telling a story.

    Now for the story, LMFAO. The first one was made so we think they are looking for good citizens the second was them showing that they are looking for people who couldn’t make it as soldiers. Big problem.

    Well, at least Newport’s video includes those magic ‘I can’t be doing wrong’ words of LEO, ‘Stop resisting’! Right?

  • http://google workingman

    hell that’s kind of scary!

  • BigPoppaAZ

    Wow,

    Decatur, GA appears like an idyllic little town, where the LEO’s are there to protect and serve and be part of the community. Possibly.

    Newport Beach PD appears to be defining an American version of Fallujah, MMA training, “stop resisting – stop resisting” while he chokes him out, training for the citizens, nice. And the last line “this is the Newport Beach Police Department, if you’re in sight, make yourself known” Really?

    Wow… a bit disconcerting in recruitment tactics. I don’t think the Air Force recruitment video is that intense.

  • Dan Sayers

    Another difference is the youtube pages themselves. The 2nd video, you cannot even post a comment on unless they approve it. VERY telling.

    The first video isn’t perfect, but at least their choice for direction is far more commendable. I wonder if there’s any examples of corruption or misconduct from that force in the last 20 yrs though.

    I need to echo the tail wagging the dog. Apparently there is a tale of public eduction.

  • tz

    It also illustrates my dichotomy between constables which are to serve the citizens v.s. the occupying army of blue-coats.

    Oh now you are hurting my felings all mi hard worc on these stori for noting

    Actually, you’d be surprised how much of such mistakes are from simply failing to proof read, stupid auto correct that takes correct spelling and makes it incorrect, and using words that you may not use all that often.

    I write books as a hobby, and when I go back to proof read, I spot atrocious errors. When you write a lot, you get used to it and forgive the errors of others.

    In any case, the videos speak for themselves far more than I can. Any good story makes the author meaningless.

    Can there be any doubt at all what kind of person they hope to attract? I have got to move to the boonies. It’s getting more and more dangerous to live in a populated area. Public well-being has been sacrificed on the alter of “officer safety”.

    I’m still waiting to see what happens to the cops in Torrance who tried to execute 2 ladies for no reason whatsoever. If a non-cop had done the same thing, under the EXACT same circumstances (I thought it was that Dorner guy, I was trying to help the police), the cops would say, “should have left it to us, because now you’re going to prison”. Any of you cops want to deny this? Oh, wait, none of you will comment here, because you know that there is nothing that can be said which excuses these morons actions.

  • Tom

    See! this IS proof that there ARE good cops out there…. of course, there are also winning lottery tickets out there too….

    Shawn got this idea from Radley Balko: http://www.theagitator.com/2012/07/05/two-videos-two-cities-two-attitudes/

    And if there’s anyone reading this who didn’t know about Balko, do yourself a favor and check him out – he’s amazing.
