Collinsville police Take $1.5 Million from Woman [yes, that collinsville] (Video)

Published On January 31, 2013 | By John Freeman | Articles

Strikingly similarly to the “Breakfast in Collinsville video included, a woman was pulled over for “lane violation” in Collinsville IL. What is the over under on the dash cam not working for this current incident.  According to bnd.com

A 62-year-old Arizona woman faces a money laundering charge after police found more than $1.5 million in cash in her car during a traffic stop in Madison County.

Further investigation showed the money, packed in 27 vacuum-sealed plastic bags, was obtained through criminal activity, Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons said in a news release on Wednesday.

Carole I. Galvez, of Gila Bend, Ariz., was charged Monday and faces up four to 15 years in prison if convicted.

She was being held Wednesday in the Madison County Jail in lieu of $500,000 bail.

An Illinois State Police trooper stopped Galvez about 3:30 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 55 south near Collinsville for improper lane usage and an illegal license plate cover.

“Conversation with the driver led the trooper to believe there was criminal activity,” Illinois State Police spokesman Sgt. Mike Link said. “The trooper asked for and was granted consent to look further inside the (2004 Volvo).”

Link said the trooper found $1,589,860 — the agency’s largest cash seizure in years.

“Cash amounts this large are usually connected to illegal drug trafficking,” Illinois State Police District 11 Commander Capt. Brad Parsons said.

Prosecutors have filed for the money to be forfeited, Gibbons said. The money would be split between the agencies involved in the investigation.

The Metropolitan Enforcement Group of Southern Illinois also worked on the investigation.

Right. She was just coming back from the “coin star” after changing in a life savings of quarters. She can get it back. Just show up with some evidence of where she got it. Way to go guys. Great stop.

Way more money than a security guard will ever see.

Nice video. Cool editing and solid voice over. I agree with your assessment of what transpired. And to think that one of the cars that drove by during their harassment of you could’ve had what they were looking for.

I had a K-9 scratch up my car one time. I was going out of state, so I had my cruise control set so as to be untouchable. There were state troopers everywhere. There was also a car that was speeding, then slowing way down when he saw troopers, repeata. At one point, he cuts into my lane and slows way down. I turned cruise off and just coasted as I wasn’t about to overtake him when I could instead just go a little slow for a bit. They pulled ME over.

Nothing about their reason for pulling me over, nor my appearance, nor my car would’ve given them any reason to suspect drugs. Nevertheless, the K-9 (german shepherd I believe) was on his hind legs, scratching up my car. They were also very interested in weapons questioning even though I didn’t own a gun back then and never had any weapons charges.

Police really are trained to lie. It’s insulting that their go to coercion is nervousness. Innocent people being stopped for no good reason, living in a day and age where “officer discretion” leads to people being verbally and physically assaulted by police is every reason to be nervous. The people who know their rights and are practiced enough to calmly endure the situation are a very slim representation of all motorists.

It’s time to stop the so called drug war. It’s been one of the largest sources of police misconduct over the past couple decades.

@t: You have been indoctrinated. It is not a crime to possess $1.5 million. Nor is it the burden of proof on the accused. Nor is it legal to seize anything without a warrant or due process. It is also irresponsible for the article to say that X USUALLY means Y, as if that’s proof that it must be in this case.

My biggest problem with the article is that assuming the cash came from what the authorities would call illegal endeavors and this all goes down in the history books as a righteous stop and seizure, it’s such a stop that leads to so many police every day believing it’s okay to whip out a K-9 because a person, who clearly is not intoxicated, swerved in the road (so they say). In other words, we all get punished for things we’ve never done.

If this was cash obtained through criminal behaviour, then good. The issue with drug interdiction is that the police can sieze cash without even charging ypou and you, because of federal asset forfieture laws place the burden on you. The issue of police dogs is ther new way cops get RS. Have a dog alert, tear into the car like a kid on xmas day, find nada and cover your ass with the
    “marijuana shake” defense.

In all seriousness, drug interdiction is good but the problem is all the police need to stop you in reality is an out of state plate. I know 2 mph over or crossing the divide for a couple seconds means they can stop you but in the real world, street patrols do not stop for these infractions. but drug task force police officers do. The intent isn’t to cite them for the slight weaving or the 2 mph over but to find any fucking excuse to search the car. I have linked an investrigative report done by an honest to god news agnecy about the drug enforcement in Teennessee in which according to the police own records they were stopping at a 10/1 ratio on the money side of that well know “drug alley”. There was also a sit down with a chief of police who said they make legit stops until he was showed a video from the news chopper of I believe was the news tams SUV with out of state plates. But for 2 minutes you see the police vehicle actually do the swerving and the vehicle pulled over do nothing of the sort and then it was stopped. The chief asked for a copy of the tape to do an ivestigation into illegal stops. I think this is the SOP for drug interdiction. Find an out of state car, stop it for the most frivolous of reasons and develop PC in any manner possible to justify the search.

As to this story again. If it was legit, then its legit and good bust otherwise. I have no issue with drug dealers being taken off the street.

Good stop and valid seizure. Of course she’ll be safest in jail, if she were out, and ‘lost’ the 1.5 million, someone might be a bit upset with her.

  • http://www.policemisconduct.net Glenn

We need more reports like this as they help foster even more mistrust of law enforcement. The comments of the resident apologists also helps achieve our goals. Good story.

  • BluEyeDevil

WOW, I cannot believe that I actually are in agreement with Common and T., If she can prove where the money came from give it back to her if not the money should go into the public coffers not the policing agencies. They are not private entities they are public servants and the money goes to the PUBLIC. Anyway good stop, FUCK THE DRUG CARTELS. CLOSE THE GODDAMN BORDER, STOP THE WAR ON DRUGS AND LEGALIZE DRUGS FOR TAXATION.

  • Blister

Again…check out Barry Cooper’s video. 1.5mil is an outlier…most departments are doing this to out-of-staters with far less money. That other video from a citizen in Georgia also talks about this stuff. Keep recording…

  • Chris Mallory

Armed highway robbery. It is not up to the citizen to prove the money is “legal” The government should be required to prove where every dollar came from if they say it is illegal.

But if they are going to take the money, give it to the Salvation Army, not the “agencies” that stole it.

Disarm cops for a safer America.

All cops lie, all the time.

  • thinkfreeer

Yeah, good job assholes – improper lane usage and an illegal license plate cover. Total bullshit. No, you can’t get me to step back here. I don’t give a shit if you can’t hear. John is not required to give his fucking ID. Yeah, he’s nervous because you motherfuckers are big and have fucking guns. “Would you have any objection to me searching the car?” Yeah, I would have a major objection, douchebag. “I’m asking for your cooperation.” Fuck you, I’m not giving it. “I’m going to detain you.” You can try. “I’m going to bring a drug dog.” Fuck your godddamn drug dog. You can kiss my ass motherfuckers.

POLICE OFFICER RAPES A THREE MONTH OLD INFANT AND A ONE YEAR OLD CHILD!

When you see common sense, t., underoath, psosgt and all the other shills spew their boot-licking propaganda here on Cop Block, remember, THIS IS WHAT THEY STAND FOR, AND THIS IS WHAT THEY DEFEND!

Wichita KS police officer Officer Joseph T. McGill, 28, was convicted today of committing a sexual act on a 3-month-old child and a 1-year-old child. Officer McGill pleaded guilty in January 2012 in an unrelated case to sexual battery while on duty as a police officer and was sentenced to three years probation. Those charges stemmed from separate incidents in November 2010 and February 2011. The judge set sentencing for March 1:

I agree with Jimbo, t is a piece of shit.

    Jumbo: huh?

  • Common Sense

Its always interesting when people suddenly discover ‘that the police can do that’ – I always wonder about those conferences and hearings between someone and their attorney.

“You mean the police can do that?!”

“Yes, its completely legal. Now, lets talk about a plea agreement to save you as much prison time, and money, as possible.”

  • Freedom

Having 1.5 million dollars is not illegal, otherwise the government would ban themselves from printing that ammount of money. Plain and simple it’s not illegal, and just because they claim that large amounts of money usually indicates drug activity, absent PROOF, the constitution is clear and anything the government states to the contradiction is running afoul of the law. Conspiracy to deprive citizens of their due process, conspiracy to deprive citizens of their civil rights. Levying war against people who have an arbitrary amount of money claiming rights to seize it. Just because someone claims they can seize it doesn’t make it so. Can I claim to go into the police department and seize all their cash, no I can’t. Badges don’t grant extra rights.

When I see those names, I usually don’t bother reading the comment any more. Just like I will change the channel if I’m watching TV and Obama comes on.

  • t.

Wow, how very “free thinking” of you.

  • http://www.policemisconduct.net Glenn

All cops are rapists and pedophiles, why read what rapists and pedophile cops have to say?

  • thinkfreeer

Well, I can’t agree that all cops are rapists and pedophiles. That does not mean I support everything a cop may do.

I did read t’s latest comment in response to me, because it was so short. I couldn’t help it. I am not responding to t and never will. But it seems necessary to clarify my moniker, since that seems to attract people thinking I’m not being a fair debater. My moniker has nothing to do with being fair or freely listening to what others think. A free thinker simply does not accept the concept that many have, which is that they have an all powerful, all seeing, imaginary friend. Most of them call that God, or Allah, or whatever. My opinion is that’s a bunch of crap.

  • t.

    As are you

  • jayduba

The truth comes out. T bag says ‘ I can remove you from the car at any time’. No justifiable cause, no reasonable suspicion. Just ‘I’m a cop so therefore I am God’ ‘I can do anything I want to you at any time’. He typed it with his own single finger. Douchbags like this reveal themselves eventually. So anything this asshat has to say in the future, remember what he actually believes. I AM THE LAW.

  • jayduba

Any time T bag, Common Piece of Shit, or these other Copsuckers comment, remember who they think they are, and think of what they think we are. Maybe we should ignor their posts entirely, not even acknowledge they’ve commented, and maybe they’ll go to a different site to annoy other people. Don’t give the ignorant the time their not worthy of.F#^k ‘em.

…And on another note, its the US Supreme Court who ruled, repeatedly, that the police are justifed to control subjects in stopped vehicle.

Maryland v Wilson, US v Sanders, US v Williams, Michigan v Summers and others, in case you’d like to do some reading.

In short, once you are stopped, the police can direct you where to go, stand, remain seated or exit, all based on the totality of the circumstances.

In sum, to use the wording by the US Supreme Court, “…the risk of harm to both the police and the occupants is minimized if the officers routinely exercise unquestioned command of the situation…”

I would like to see the Dash Cam of this 1.5 million seizure.

They inform no one of anything other than how over run with blatant tyranny we’ve become. I acknowledge no legitimacy in an institution that declares a corporation to be a person or taxes someone to the point of starvation and homelessness because they are too poor to afford health insurance. People are to be governed, not ruled, and most people in the US are realizing that they are brought into a world without their consent, and are being forced to abide by laws they never consented to or asked for.

Duba: Why so nasty dude? Like I said, and then @common laid out in the case laws….an officer can have you step out of the vehicle at any time. The STOP requires RS. Once at that threshold, your movement can be controlled. Its OK to be wrong dude, no need to get mad about it. Take the information and use it as an educational experience.

duba, forget it dude, these guys have all the time in the world to try to dominate the forum here, i think because they are probably on some sort of paid leave from their jobs most likely for misconduct therefor their comments make for good “morning time” reading then flush them away where they belong lmao and as for senseless well most 1st graders i know can copy and paste,

oh and i have also noticed that since they cant get a gun tazer or big black stick in here the frivolous law suit threat card gets played, lol what a bunch of crybabies they come here to be antagonistic, pretty typical they need an outlet for their aggressions if off the job. sucks for them cause they cant thum us on the head and straighten us out rofl!

that collinville police department is very crooked. why bwould they have a liar and counterfieter working there . illinois is so crooked as far as the police, from the northernest down to the southern tip and it has been this way for a hundred years and getting worse. read disclosure a small but good paper from southern illinois, good info. the truth.i ncant find a web site or facebook page for collinsville police so i cant rag them for the nasty service they provide. always remember the night before you go long distance spray the underneath of your vehicle with pepper spray it will not hurt the dog but it will fuck up their sense of smell. i do this to my luggage too.
