Cop Block Launches New Site
This was one of the first posts on Cop Block’s old website on Tumblr. Though I’m still working on this site, I wanted to reblog this here. It’s an explanation of what Cop Block’s goal is.
As of now, Cop Block is blogging older videos with little text about such incident. We’ll continue to do so for a little while in order to build a base of content and give solid examples of what Cop Block will do.
Though in the near future, depending on growth, we hope Cop Block can be a support group that will apply pressure on departments with rogue police officers. To get those departments to hold those officers accountable to the fullest extent of the law.
How will we do this?
We can do this by working together. We’re asking everyone and anyone to be alert while going about your daily routines. If you see an officer(s) (traffic cop, meter maid, ect) breaking the law, whether it be a minor or major offense, snap a picture or take some video. Be sure to get as much info as possible; badge number, name, department and/or phone number to HQ. If you don’t want to post these yourself (though if you do please inform us and we will publish them on Cop Block) feel free to email those to CopBlock@gmail.com or post them on our FB Fan Page.
Eventually Cop Block will also make its own videos of police wrong doings, what private security forces would be like in contrast to police, longer documentary style videos of Cops that break the law over and over, a 10 most wanted cops list and one day an actual cruiser to follow rogue officers around.
So the goal is rather simple; to hold officers accountable by using pictures and videos. Cop Block will then post this on its blog, push it out using FB and Twitter, and hopefully with supporters of the cause. Get enough pressure, in the form of phone calls or letters, on the department to take proper action. If the cop parked in a no parking zone with no emergency, then we hope he gets ticketed. If it’s a more sever case then hopefully dismissed of his duties on top of criminal charges.
We want to help people NOT fear the police, they should fear us and our cameras. I’m excited by the support Cop Block has gotten in its first few days and I’m looking forward to our first push of accountability.
