Friday’s Finest – June Edition

Now the the video contest has ended, watch for a post next week about a new contest, its time to cover the few photos we’ve gotten send to us.  Remember folks monitoring police officers is an easy and legal way of holding those with badges accountable.  At the very least it shows them that folks are watching.

This month we have four pics, one posted to FB and the others sent in via email, of police conducting their duties or breaking the law. Check them out below.

Police1 300x225 Fridays Finest June EditionCop in the center, waiting to bust that extremely violent speeder (above).

Police2 Fridays Finest June Edition

Just another day at the office for this guy.

police 3 Fridays Finest June EditionNothing like parking illegally right outside the police station.

And here are the pictures in slide show format:

Thanks to the folks who send in, take and post the pics you see here.  It helps to remind those with badges that we’re watching.

I’m not sure what your point is in the first photo … that there should be no speed limits? That police should not enforce speed limits?

I’m as disgusted with the police as anyone, but even in a libertarian paradise, with privately owned roads, I’d think we’d want traffic regulations (in my privately owned home I allow people to carry firearms, but I don’t allow them to point firearms at people).

Of all the things police do, stopping someone doing 90 mph in a 50 zone (and/or weaving in and around other people doing 50) sounds like one of the few things that I ** want ** them to keep doing!

(OTOH, I’ve been known to drive at 110 mph on the Mass Turnpike at 2am, when it’s utterly abandoned, and I can’t see a headline or taillight for miles; safety is the goal, not a slavish devotion to laws).

TJIC – I couldn’t agree more. This pic was sent in and we posted it. I did so because it shows how people can and do take pics of police. It’s an encouraging thing. Like you stated in a libertarian society the roads would be privately owned and regulated. Though unlike this cop, they wouldn’t get away with the prying into people’s lives like so many officers these days do who pull over speeders.

    TJIC,

A cop by the side of a road, is like a child molester by the side of a playground or a thug lurking outside a liquor store. It’s trouble waiting to happen, brazenly lurking in plain sight.

The problem with the above photo is that it’s not fast drivers, nor even aggressive drivers, that cause accidents. It’s BAD drivers. But cops dont focus on bad drivers.

The cop in the above photo isnt just waiting for a genuinely reckless driver. Like thousands of them everyday everywhere, he’s hunting anyone he can on technicalities. 60 in a 50, even when perfectly safe? Ka-ching. Change lanes without a blinker, even when perfectly safe? Ka-ching. License suspended because you didnt pay *child support* (wtf?) and the automated OCR plate scanner alerts when it sees your car? Ka-ching.

And it’s not just Vehicle Code stuff. As soon as that pig walks up to your car, the Drug War is on. He’s looking around, sniffing around, dying for an excuse to steal your car and hold it hostage for insane “storage fees” from the first moment.

On highway 85N I often do 90mph on the way to work. Speed limit is 55. Does that make me automatically dangerous? The flow of traffic is 80 anyway, cuz it’s clear and safe and everyone knows it. So Im only 10 over traffic, just cruising along nice and easy in the fast lane, not bothering anyone, passing calmly (Ive been driving hard for 25 years, clean record). Yet highway robbers like the one above, cant wait to hit me for 45 over the posted limit. They claim public safety, but it’s all about “revenue” for his boss and promotions/bonuses/favored assignments for himself.

If cops focused on real public safety issues and left the highway robbery to the criminals, people wouldnt have issues with situations like the one pictured above.

  4. Heck says:

45 over posted speed limit? I would say that is bad driving.

  5. K.C. says:

I’ve often witnessed cops break the speed limit, run red lights, cross in front of me sharply and turn at an intersection, etc. without flashing their light bar and sirens, just because it’s fun to be arrogant and get by with it.

  6. Heck says:

Or they are responding to a call… if you see them doing that document it and report it. Chances are they have justification.

  7. Van says:

    Heck,
That’s called being an apologist for the cops. Everyone knows cops run code 3 (lights and sirens) when responding to any call that has any element of urgency. Their legal immunity to break the law comes from the fact of running code 3, in fact.

It’s so easy for them to casually run code 3 whenever they feel like it completely without justification, that we all see it all the time if we’re willing to. Cops flipping their lights on briefly just to illegally run a red light only to turn them off right after and casually continue on their way. Happens almost as often as we see them speeding, changing lanes without signalling, parking illegally, you know – all the same shit they love to PUNISH US FOR.

  8. Tucker says:

Van the reason they get you for going 35 mph over the speed limit (90-55=35) is because you are going 35 over the speed limit. You can’t complain when a cop actually does his job and yes doing 90 in a 55 does make you automatically dangerous according to the law. If you don’t like the speed limit petition your government with a logical reason to raise the limit. When cops sit on the side of the road it is as a reminder to slow down and watch your speed, if they were just wanting to meet quota they would hide so you didn’t see them. Just because other people are also breaking the speed limit does not make it legal. I’m a speeder too but when i get pulled over i only have myself to blame.
