The Double Standard: Cops can do it but you can’t
While monitoring the local police department, as I’m gathering information about possible unconstitutional tactics used by them, I noticed this officer parked illegally. I thought he was parked there to radar passing cars. Which surprised me because I had never seen them park like this. So I grabbed my camera to investigate. I wanted to know the officers thoughts on them breaking the law (parking illegally) to catch people breaking the law (speeders)?
What I found was a running police SUV with no officer inside? I then noticed the other Jackson police car in the driveway. At that time I heard two officers talking at the end of the driveway but still don’t know if this was a call (maybe domestic violence) or one of the homes of these officers?
I’m not going to call the department to ask this officer to be ticketed, as it will be easy for them to claim he’s on a call. So why post this? Well it’s a great example of the double standard cops have. Cops will often spend the majority of their time, especially beat cops, ticketing non violent victimless crimes. Like parking violations, yet when they have to run into the store or stop by the sitters they do what they want. Even when in their own cars.
In this case there very well could of been someone in need of police attention. If that’s the case then just flip on those Red and Blues to let others on the road know you’re there. As you can see from the video the SUV is black and it was kinda foggy out that night. Plus highway 60 is the most popular road in Jackson, at least turn on the hazard lights? I also point out the now empty gas station not more than 100 yards away (and that’s being generous). If this wasn’t an emergency why not just park there to keep the roads safe?
It’s because cops don’t care and they’re only worried about themselves. They don’t have to obey the red and white sign stating no parking. After all they’re cops. Though I wonder what would happen or who we would blame had a drunk driver came along and hit the SUV? Or better yet a sober driver? I bet the cops would ticket them and ship them off to jail, unless it was another officer who hit them.
Some people might say that I’m too harsh on the police. I would disagree. I think everyone else is too soft on them. Their salaries are paid by tax dollars, they have better benefits than most, they have a more secure job than most, they carry guns, they arrest people and more. With all the ‘perks’ of the job the least they can do is make sure to live up to the same standard they hold others to.
