Are We Being Attacked?
Historically, those who claim power, target those who dare question. This targeting intensifies when others are emboldened and impact is felt.
We thought it best to make our readership aware of a problem that has intensified as CopBlock has grown and had greater reach and impact.
About four months ago CopBlock moved to a dedicated server run by Liberty Web Alliance. The site had grown and was getting sluggish and when traffic spikes of over 10k visits came in a short period of time it was bursting the server. Since then we have been on occasion getting hammered by malicious DDOS attacks. These theoretically originate from several different countries.
Three times in the last two weeks they have temporarily taken down our server. Each time we have rebooted and added further precaution and hardening.
Liberty Web Alliance is now hiring a security firm to look at the server configuration and determine if any security hardening can be done.
These attacks could just be typical script kiddies or opportunistic hackers, we hope. Alternatively, it could even be state-sponsored. We have had propaganda comments that have come from the IP addresses of the Dept. of Homeland Security. It would not be out of the realm of possibility that these attacks are being directed by forces that do not like the truth that CopBlock is so effectively spreading.
