Liberty Activists Harassed, Cited for Walking on the Side of a Road

QUINLAN TX – When walking along the side of a road is against the law, you might not live in a free country.  This prophecy proven true by two prominent liberty activists in the Dallas-Fort Worth area when they were walking along the side of a road with rifles on their backs, holding signs which read “We The People,” and waving a Come and Take if flag.

Yesterday afternoon, Kory Watkins and Kenny Lovett set out to exercise their first and second amendment rights as they often do, when they were approached by a Quinlan Texas police officer alongside highway 276.  Lovett, sporting his bright yellow Gadsden Flag hat quickly asked the officer as he approaches..

are we being detained or are we free to go

The officer replies, “ya’ll are free to go.”  So Watkins and Lovett said thank you and they continued walking along side the road.  Just a few minutes later, officer Mohr approached them again stating that they are being detained for ‘walking on the wrong side of the road’ and demands identification.  In a law that sounds like it belongs on the front page of the Onion, the men question the officer’s knowledge of the statute and ask him to prove it by showing them the statute that they are breaking.  A few minutes later, the officer surprisingly returns from his squad car to read verbatim the state law which states…

Sec. 552.006. USE OF SIDEWALK.

(a) A pedestrian may not walk along and on a roadway if an adjacent sidewalk is provided and is accessible to the pedestrian.
(b) If a sidewalk is not provided, a pedestrian walking along and on a highway shall if possible walk on:
(1) the left side of the roadway; or
(2) the shoulder of the highway facing oncoming traffic.
(c) The operator of a vehicle emerging from or entering an alley, building, or private road or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian approaching on a sidewalk extending across the alley, building entrance or exit, road, or driveway.

Officer Mohr, who is clearly perturbed at this point that two activists would question his authority and knowledge of the law decided to cite both men for the egregious crime of walking in the wrong direction along the side of the road.

BrettSanders.me reached out to Lovett and asked what he wants his audience to take away from the video and he responded…

If officers are going to enforce the law, they need to know the law right off the top of their head.  What if, that wasn’t a law and he was just bullying us around and we didn’t do anything but followed orders?  Imagine how many people receive bogus tickets  and they don’t know and they run up there and say “Where do I sign” Yes, I am guilty.. When really they aren’t. Happens all the time

If you believe that officer Mohr should have used his discretion in this matter and ignored the ridiculous ‘law,’ give the Quinlan PD a call and politely let them know. 903.356.2500
