The video below was submitted to CopBlock.org via our submission tab. In the video you’ll see that two men planned to go out and see if there was a difference in police reaction to a white person open carrying compared to that of a black man. You probably won’t be too shocked by what you’re about to see.
It appears that police seem to react much more aggressively when the person open carrying is a black man. Yet, while there are statistics that show more black people are arrested and incarcerated, there are no statistics (at my disposal, please share if you have some) stating that police officers face more aggression from black people. So why the different reaction to the same exact situation? Is it racism? A training reaction?
I try to steer clear of pointing out race when blogging here at CopBlock.org, I choose to highlight the actions of officers in general unless the story deems otherwise, yet, you can’t ignore the statistics and you can’t ignore the video proof provided above. What are your thoughts? Are police generally oppressive to everyone or is there heavy racism within police ranks today? Does economic classism play any role in this? What are some solutions to these problems?
In the future I’ll write a post with my answers to these questions but for now, think about it, consider submitting your answer and share this video. We’re all subject to arrest at anytime but cops need to know that treating people differently, especially just for the color of their skin, is something that most certainly has to change and now.
