Modesto Attorney, 3 Highway Patrolmen Arrested for Murder
A prominent Modesto area defense attorney and eight others have been placed under arrest for various charges in regards to the 2012 death of Korey Kauffman.
Attorney Frank Carson is at the center of the murder case. The details of the investigation into the murder allege that Carson was tired of people stealing metal from his property to sell as scrap, so he hired someone to take of the next person who tried. The charges allege that Korey, who was known for ‘scrapping’, and had admitted he was going to Carson’s property to steal drain pipes that night to a friend, was killed in the Turlock area and his body was then secretly transferred to a location in Mariposa County where it was found in August 2013 by hunters.
The following other persons have been arrested in the case, as well as their charges
- Georgia Geanette Defilippo (Carson’s wife)- first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and false imprisonment.
- Cristina Anne Defilippo (Georgia’s daughter)- criminal conspiracy, being an accessory.
- Baljit Athwal- first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and false imprisonment.
- Daljit Atwal- first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and false imprisonment.
- Robert Lee Woody- first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and false imprisonment.
- Officer Walter Wesley Wells- first-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and false imprisonment.
- Officer Scott J. McFarlane- criminal conspiracy and being an accessory.
- Officer Eduardo Quintanar Jr.- criminal conspiracy and being an accessory.
Wells has not been with the CHP since June when his employment was terminated for unrelated misconduct after seven years. The other two California Highway Patrol officers have been placed on administrative leave and had their police powers revoked pending the the outcome of the charges. Both had over ten years experience on the force.
Carson, who has a colorful relationship with the District Attorney, claims that the allegations are ridiculous, and is eager to challenge them in court. He is currently being held without bond.
