Kenneth “Mark” Lewis, who is an Internal Affairs investigator for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, was caught on tape admitting to widespread racism within the department, illegal hacking, and dozens of other crimes.
The audio calls were recorded by a woman, “Jessica”, who Officer Lewis was reportedly met online, and ‘fell in love’ with the woman. (Click here for the raw audio files)
During the several hours of recorded calls, Officer Lewis talks about one of his primary job duties – protecting the Sheriff. He does this by traveling all over the country, conducting investigations into anyone who might harm the sheriff’s image, or anyone trying to oppose the sheriff in the general election. Those investigations include digging into the person’s finances, in addition to close family members.
During one phone call, Officer Lewis refers to African-Americans as dumb blacks, poor, uneducated, and to top it all off, states that blacks act like animals.
There is a long discussion about who recorded those tapes. Some are claiming it is the founder of pbsotalk.com, Mark Dougan. It is claimed that Mark may have used a digital voice recorder to impersonate ‘Jessica’. However, the subject of why or how, is not the point of this article – it’s about the widespread racism within the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office and illegal activities allegedly conducted on behalf of Sheriff Ric Bradshaw.
PBSO has had a long line of officer-involved shootings. Out of 114 shootings, Internal Affairs cleared all but 12 shootings, stating they were justified. These numbers are so out-of-the-ordinary, that WPTV conducted a year-long investigation concerning the shootings. With a lead investigator from PBSO’s Internal Affairs division being caught on tape discussing his blatant racism and criminal activities, it’s no wonder why the majority of the officers were cleared in shootings involving minorities.
A perfect example of how PBSO and their Internal Affairs division helped to cover up shootings of unarmed, African-Americans is the shooting of Dontrell Stephens. In 2013, Stephens was shot by PBSO Deputy Adams Lin, he was left paralyzed. According to the attorney who is suing the Sheriff’s office on behalf of Stephens,
The deputy’s recorded statements following the shooting were absolutely false. Internal affairs completely ignored that evidence.
The officer was cleared of any wrongdoing by Internal Affairs – the same Internal Affairs Division that Officer Kenneth “Mark” Lewis is employed with. In the full audio recordings, Officer Lewis talks about scouting areas where blacks are known to congregate, looking for anyone with ‘dreads and grills’, because most likely they are drug dealers or criminals.
For those that live or work in Palm Beach County, news of racism and illegal activities comes as no surprise. In 2010, the Sheriff’s Office was sued for discriminating against a black deputy, and paid out over $200,000 in damages. In 2012, PBSO was embarrased after photos surfaced showing two PBSO Deputies posing with a prostitute at a golf course, where they had been partying with her and using cocaine (Warning, pictures are explicit).
