A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and charged with molesting a middle school student.
Costa Mesa police say they were called by staff from Costa Mesa Middle School concerning a suspicious man on campus.
The man was identified as Jovanni Argueta, a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy.
He met the 13-year-old girl on an online gaming website.
Argueta allegedly molested the Costa Mesa Middle School eighth-grader multiple times over the course of a year.
The sheriff’s department said in a statement, “The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department expects all of its members to hold themselves to the highest ethical and professional standards at all times. Allegations of this magnitude are disturbing and disappointing.”
Argueta has been charged with child annoyance and child molestation.
Argueta is currently out on bail.
