Punk the Pigs CopBlocking Contest; Win a $200 Shopping Spree & CopBlock Gear!
My recent article, Activism and the Absurd, discussed the historical trend of using the intentionally ridiculous to highlight the deadly serious. This is not even something new to CopBlock, as Ademo Freeman, Kelly Patterson and others have many great examples of using absurdist tactics while conducting activism. I also called for people to begin engaging in these tactics more frequently with more absurdity. To help encourage this I’m launching the “Punk the Pigs CopBlocking Contest.”
Here is what you do:
Plan and execute a protest against police based on either an incident of wrongdoing, or on the general premise of abolishing police…
-or-
Go out and film police just doing their jobs where you live…
-or-
Engage the public about police issues…
-and-
Record it, then send us the photos/videos and tell us your story!
We are not talking about your run of the mill stuff, either. We want the most bombastic, absurd, over-the-top, ridiculous, silly, hyperbolistic stuff you can come up with. (Be sure to read Activism and the Absurd to see what we mean.)
There is a fine line between being wacky and being a nuisance. Be sure you are aiming for absurdity and not just being an asshole. Be peaceful, respectful of your community and keep your activities moral, legal and safe for all.
At the end of the contest I’ll announce one winner and one runner-up.
The winner will receive $200 shopping spree at Amazon.com for Camera Gear* and a $50 voucher for CopBlock Gear, as well as the opportunity to go CopBlocking with Ademo and the MAC crew later this year (if applicable).
Runner up will receive $75 shopping spree at Amazon.com* and a $25 voucher for CopBlock Gear.
All of the entries that show any degree of quality* and absurdity will be published here at CopBlock.org.
Please submit your entries via the CopBlock Submit Page before March 31st (11:59 PM). Entries will be judged by various CopBlock Network contributors and a winner (and runner up) will be announced on April Fool’s Day.
Be sure that your submission contains your name and a way to contact you via email or telephone; as well as a written statement explaining what you did, photographs, links to video of the event (preferably from YouTube) and any additional details you believe we may need.
So get your activist friends together and start planning how you are going to Punk the Pigs! Be creative, safe and most of all- HAVE FUN!
