Manchester PD & NH State Police Execute Illegal Stops
This write-up comes to CopBlock.org from Melanie Ross-Brady. Appreciate the thorough write-up and follow-up you did. What you witnessed reminds me of the Copblocking that occurred last Fall when Manch PD was doing a checkpoint on Bridge St. – Pete
My husband and I were driving in the city of Manchester, NH. The first time we drove by we thought that maybe there was an accident on the corners of Elm Street and Harry Theo Lane.
We parked our car in front of the Shell Gas Station (across the street from The Verizon Wireless Arena) and watched what they were doing. Manchester Police along with New Hampshire State Police were randomly picking cars, motorcycles and other vehicles and searching through the cars and asking for license and registrations.
One New Hampshire State Trooper flagged a motorcycle heading south (in the right lane) for no reason and told him to pullover to where NH State Police and Manchester Police were. First, they checked his tires and we saw him get a citation to appear in court.
Manchester Police pulled over a female driver who was not speeding at 5:05pm and asked her for her license and registration and didn’t back to her until 5:45pm and handed her an appearance to be in court. They also pulled over a cement mixer truck and let the driver go.
There was nothing mentioned in the newspaper or www.manchesternh.gov (under police) that said a Safety Check or DUI Checkpoint was being done. I called the police station and asked what was taking place and was told that NH State Police and Manchester Police together were blocking a the road due to construction but their was no construction being done. I called the local newspaper and media and they had no notice of what was going on.
I finally called “PORC 411” (a type of hotline for Copblock) and told what I was witnessing and obtained a call back. I was told by a Porc 411/Copblock member (“BIG MIKE”) that I was not the only call he obtained and that his neighbor and girlfriend were also pulled over for no reason.
Funny story on my part: My husband and I drove down the street and back in front of the barricade with road cones and evidence kit on the street. Our windows down, music blasting, car not inspected (inspection sticker says 11/2011 and plates say August because car is registered) and www.copblock.org on my back window and our car was not pulled over.
