Brett Sanders Pays Speeding Ticket – $200+ – with ALL Pennies!
Traffic tickets are often talked about here at CopBlock.org because they are the best example of how state funded protection services fail at the protection part and excell at extortion. Seriously, how many of you who’ve gotten a speeding ticket feel that the officer kept you, the community or anyone safe? 9 out of 10 times you’re most likely going with the flow of traffic or at the top end of the ‘buffer’ zone officers usually allow cars to travel over the speed limit. Either way there’s little protection being provided and a whole lot of dangerous actions including the extortion of the person speeding being done by police.
Many find themselves in the same dilemma after receiving a ticket from a police officer. That dilemma is to go to court and fight the ticket while losing at least ONE day’s pay or simply pony up the money to get the gangsters off your back. Sadly, most chose the second option and I understand why, it’s just too costly – for the individual – to fight the racket. The sound financial decision is to pay them and many gladly do because they’ve been brainwashed to believe that they deserve it.
While those of us who see the state for what it is, a monopoly on force and nothing more, think of creative ways to encourage those who partake in this extortion racket to reconsider their involvement or make it a time consuming process. After all, if you’re going to waste our time, we might as well waste a little bit of yours too. Of course the people you’re wasting the time of are also paid for by tax dollars so in part you could just cost yourself more money. Yet, I feel that the seeds this could plant to those in the offices or those who video the video is more than worth it, IMO.
That’s probably what Brett Sanders had in mind when he walked into the Frisco, TX municipal court with over $200 in pennies to pay his ‘extortion’ ticket after he took the ‘charge’ to trial and lost.
While this ‘activism prank’ has been done a number of time before (see videos below) what I like most about Sanders version is that he just dumps the coins and walks out. Some wait around for them to count them for you and give you a receipt. Sanders says, “Mail me a receipt” as he walks out leaving the clerks dumbfounded. This also limits the back and forth you have with office staff. There have been times where the office has refused to take pennies but with this method you reduce that concern. Though I guess they could just say you didn’t pay and keep your money anyways. I wouldn’t put that past the state.
I want to touch on the ‘is this good activism?’ question again before concluding this post with a few videos of people doing the same. As I mentioned above I feel this is good activism because it has a high possibility of planting seeds in people’s mind. Not only those who have to count the $200 + in pennies but anyone who watches the video. While many of us could sit in front of a camera and say, “This ticket I’m paying is extortion. It’s for a victimless crime and there was no injured party” that wouldn’t be as appealing as dumping thousands of pennies onto the counter and walking out.

So while it might not be a video that will help people understand that the police need to be abolished, it most certainly could lead them to that conclusion.
Also, you don’t have to pay the fine at all, you can choose to sit it out in jail. That’s what I did for my $50 extortion fine in Parma, OH. If they really want to be the gangsters they are, make them be the gangsters they are. If they have to keep locking people up to get money from those they do not lock up, that show will only last for so long. It would be only a matter of time before people were sick and tired of paying taxes to jail people who were refusing to pay worthless traffic fines extortion.
OTHERS PAY IN PENNIES!!
