Police Put Mom in Jail for Cheering
Shannon Cooper was excited to see her daughter walk across the stage to get her high school diploma. She waited until her daughter Iesha’s name was read and then she cheered proudly for her daughter’s achievement.
Almost immediately she was placed in handcuffs and walked out of the building to a police van where she was detained in the vehicle for 45 minutes.
Once her daughter saw her, she burst into tears. Her memory of her graduation will always be tarnished by that visual of her mother in handcuffs.
As if that wasn’t enough, Shannon was then taken down to her local South Carolina jail for disturbing the peace where she was forced to post $225 bond to escape her cage.
Shannon explained that the parents were told that if they cheered they would be escorted out of the building. She reasoned that she would cheer anyway because, “I’ll be escorted out. I’ll go nicely because I’m gonna cheer. It was hard work. I went through so much to get her to this point you know.”
While she knew that she would be escorted out, she had no idea she would be put in a cage for showing her daughter the love she felt she deserved.
