After Ron Paul: Come Here, Maybe?

Ian Freeman of Free Keene  shared this video, where Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” is set to scenes from New Hampshire, the destination of the Free State Project. As you can see from some of the images pictured, New Hampshire is a very beautiful place and the liberty-minded community here is ever-expanding, as are the various forms of activism implemented.

Unfortunately, “the ugliest parts of NH are the aggressors calling themselves “government.” Although New Hampshire is not yet void of individuals who commit horrendous acts under the guise of authority and are not held accountable, it is easier to counteract and seek accountability for their negative actions when you are surrounded by a community of supportive individuals willing to contribute to the efforts. Methods used vary by the individual.

Some have chosen civil disobedience. A few notable police interactions referenced in the video:

In January 2011 Keene Police Department officers James Cemorelis and Matt Griffin handcuffed and dragged Pete Eyre through the Keene District Court after Cemorelis pulled him from his chair for wearing a hat in the courtroom. It was negative fifteen degrees, court was not yet in session, wearing a hat in a courtroom is not illegal, and as you can see in this video, a Keene Police Department was in the courtroom wearing a hat, while court was in session, just minutes after Pete was manhandled and unjustly caged by Cemorelis and Griffin.

In February 2012 Cheshire County Sheriff’s Department officers chased Derrick J. Freeman of Derrick J’s Victimless Crime Spree down the street after arresting two other activists for criminal trespass charges at the Cheshire Superior Court in Keene, NH. As Derrick had previously been issued a no trespass order at the Superior Courthouse and did not want to get arrested, he stayed outside of the courthouse. As you can see in this video, Derrick was chased down the road by badge-wearing aggressors although he technically did not violate the trespass order. Note that Kate, who also received a no trespass order, was standing closer to the courthouse than Derrick when the aggression began, yet she was not arrested.

In July 2010, a number of activists were arrested at Central Square in Keene, NH after heroically standing in the path of a Keene Police Department cruiser as the officer attempted to drive away with a woman who was arrested for peacefully consuming a beverage in the park.

In March 2012, Derrick J. Freeman was brutally assaulted by Keene Police Department officer Fintan Moore. Moore used his vehicle in an attempt to knock Derrick off of his bike, then proceeded to stick his baton in the spokes of the bicycle and tackle Derrick on someone’s front lawn. Moore was attempting to serve Derrick with a no trespass order for Keene’s public schools because the spreading of ideas which are different from what is taught in school is not appreciated by school officials – Derrick had already been served the no trespass order earlier in the day.

In April 2010, twelve were arrested for allegedly trespassing on public property during a protest at the Cheshire County House of Corrections.

While miscarriages of justice do occur in New Hampshire as they do elsewhere, there is a wonderful community of individuals here actively working to hold individuals accountable regardless of whether the aggressors wear badges…so come here maybe?
