Hello! My name is Paula Parmeley Carter and I am a new contributor here at Cop Block. I believe that holding the police accountable for their bad behavior is one of the most important arms of the liberty movement; that is why I am so excited to be part of Cop Block.
While in college I began to see outrageous abuse of power by the local police. At that time I still thought that those cops were just bad seeds and that most cops were good. That belief was soon squashed with the proliferation of the Internet. I now understand that if an institution is a result of aggression, only aggression can be expected. Until we end the government monopoly on protective services, I don’t think we will ever have police that are completely accountable, but we should do everything that we can to get as close to that goal as possible.
Unlike statists, I believe that the most effective means for positive change is persuasion, not coercion. Revealing the police for the thugs that they really are with the use of video cameras, written words, and the Internet may be just the persuasion needed to end our current police state.
