Indiana cop charged with DUI while hauling DARE trailer

This past week, Seymour Police Officer John Newcomb was charged with DUI by State Police after hitting a parked car with his truck. In an amusing twist of irony, Newcomb was hauling a trailer for DARE, the government’s ineffective anti-drug and alcohol abuse program. Newcomb was off-duty at the time and was reportedly borrowing the trailer to move.

According to the Seymour Police Department’s website, Newcomb is a School Resource Officer responsible for seven schools. The site specifically mentions that he “conducts lectures with the students on police related issues such as narcotics and alcohol and their effects on driving.”

Newcomb was given a paid vacation by his department pending a hearing scheduled for August 11.

“Newcomb was given a paid vacation by his department pending a hearing scheduled for August 11.”

this is straight up bull shit.

if i got a DUI I’d be in jail!

a dare officer off duty using police equipment for personal use.

    straight up bull shit!!!

put this piece of shit in jail and let the inmates have him. if he survives i bet he won’t break the law again.

    FIRE HIS ASS!!!!

  • Calm Down

Chill out kelemoku, if you got caught drinking and driving you would be arrested, booked, and given a chance for bail. The article doesn’t mention whether or not he was arrested (although I wouldn’t be suprised if he wasn’t) so it’s hard to say if there’s a double-standard here.

As for the paid leave, yeah that’s bullshit. Either he should be on leave without pay or on the job. Remember he hasn’t been convicted of anything yet, I don’t think it’s right to fire someone for being arrested.

Anybody else notice this schmuck looks like Shrek? Hahaha

I hope this guy gives his lectures dressed up as McGruff the Crime Dog or something. He looks WAY too child-molesterish to be around elementary school kids with his own fat, greasy, ugly, stupid mug.

Calm, people get fired for being arrested all the time. Or I should say, people doing productive work in the private economy get fired for being arrested.

I wonder if they would let me borrow the trailer to move?

Well guys we might fail a field test after that kind of crash. If your drunk or under the influence. They have to treat you. He prob. had a head injury. Kinda Funny thought. Paid Leave really ?> make him use his vacation time. and If anybody else had an accident like this at work. they would be fired. Come on Double standard shows its head again.

  • “Newcomb was off-duty at the time and was reportedly borrowing the trailer to move.”

So Police equipment can be borrowed for private use? Next time I move I’m heading down to the cop station to borrow that pickup truck they got with Homeland Security money…

I’ll let you know how THAT goes :)

  • Calm Down

Chris I know, and that is bullshit. How pissed would you be if some rogue cop arrested you and charged you with ‘assaulting a police officer’ with no cause and you were fired from your job. If one is going to be unable to do their job because they are handling the case that’s one thing, but a policy of firing someone because of the charges against them is horrible.
