Greenfield, MA Revisited

On July 1st, Adam and I were arrested in Greenfield, MA. The next day we learned that between us we were charged with three felonies and five misdemeanors. We had not hurt anyone. There was no victim. For a thorough overview of what went down, check out the Greenfield, MA PD Arrest and Intimidate Activists for Filming post that Adam and I wrote a couple days after being freed from the cages Todd M. Dodge and his colleagues placed us in.

In this two-part video I give some background about the event, provide an updates on what’s going on now and conclude by asking those so-inclined to call the Greenfield Police Department (413.773.5411) and speak with Todd M. Dodge (ext. 1415) and/or Chief David F. Guilbault (ext. 1302) and the Greenfield Mayor Bill Martin (413.772.1560).

Again, we did not harm anyone so we have nothing to hide. We want to be as transparent as possible. Will those who purport to work for us do the same?

I loved the way the Judge looked at Adam’s T-shirt. He reaction was priceless.

admire how you handled yourself in court pete. how you wouldn’t even let them pull you into their fantasy world of “words on paper”. you held you’re own with the rational “how can you not understand this? some guys in costumes attacked me, locked me in a cage, then trashed my home for no reason. what does some words someone once put on some paper have to do with this?” argument.

i’ll see you in january. look for the one sitting down in the front row ;)

I hope after he receives the report that you have an advocate in the mayor. He *seemed* like a decent chap but one never knows with any politician. I know you don’t want representation but it might help to find someone interested in law who’s on your side. When you’re in any court you’re playing a game whether you like it or not, and it helps to have a “coach” so you don’t piss of the ump. I’ve made that mistake before. Keep up the good fight.

  • Kudos for giving an account of the incident! But don’t fall on your sword, brother. Serving time in prison doesn’t achieve a whole lot.

Agreed with Rupert; anyone who represents himself has a fool for a client. Once, I was charged (not arrested) in Norfolk, VA for “contempt of cop” (disorderly conduct) after calling them bacause someone pulled a gun on me then drove off when I made a hell of a commontion to attract attention. When got back home to Richmond, VA I looked up an affordable legal attorney from a program they had there for people with low incomes. For $500 USD we went back to Norfolk to beat the change and even shook hands with the cop in front of the judge for no hard feelings (the cop musta been ticked off at that little stunt), and for another $500 got the whole charge expunged since there was no conviction (otherwise it stays on your RAP sheet). The latter helped because of the nature of my work and the need to stay squeaky clean leagally.

And, for full disclosure, I was a guest of a county jail for an assault conviction and took seven years to get that misdemeanor expunged off my RAP sheet. Had to explain to employers that the conviction didn’t involve money and probably cost me some job offers during the period. Staring at sickly-green painted walls with the shadow of bars on them does get boring after a while.

I find myself agreeing and disagreeing with you at the same time. I think your arrest was stupid and unlawful, and that the police (in general) have over inflated egos. When you stand up to an officer, they feel they need to beat you down and clarify that THEY ARE IN CHARGE. If no actual crime was committed, well, there is always “non-physical resisting arrest”, isn’t there.

I disagree with “no victim, no crime” in the broad since. I also disagree with your views on weapon policy (open carry and conceal carry). But I agree with your drug policy very much.

But overall I think you guys are doing a real public service. You come across as very hard core about your beliefs and I respect that. I also realize that same quality pisses of the police to no end.

    Stand firm!

I will be calling the chief and mayor tomorrow. This is ridiculous. How else can I support you brother?

  • I rarely drop responses, however i did some searching and wound up here Greenfield, MA Revisited | Cop Block. And I actually do have some questions for you if it’s allright. Could it be just me or does it look like a few of these remarks come across like they are coming from brain dead visitors? :-P And, if you are writing on other online sites, I’d like to follow anything new you have to post. Would you list of all of your public pages like your Facebook page, twitter feed, or linkedin profile?
