Cop caught watching porn while on duty

According to NBC4

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus police are investigating one of its own after allegations that an officer looked at pornography while on the clock.

Columbus police say they first learned last week of the allegations that a veteran freeway officer had looked at pornography on his personal laptop inside his cruiser on August 13 or 14, while on duty on the city’s south side.

CPD’s Sgt. Rich Weiner said an internal affairs investigation was opened and continues; meanwhile, the officer in question is still on the streets.

Weiner said Division policy allows officers to go online but said, “If he’s doing something or looking at some kind of material other than something law-enforcement related, then that is a violation.”

Weiner said the investigation is focusing on whether the officer was inattentive to his duties.

Once the internal investigation is complete, Weiner says it will be up to police brass to determine what consequence, if any, will be handed down to the officer.

Reporter: “Is it right for a Columbus police officer to be looking at this material? I can’t look at it at work, and a lot of other people can’t look at it at work, and he’s in a position for public safety?”

Sgt. Weiner: “There are policies that every corporation has around the city, around the country. We have policies as well that deal with this type of action. We’re going to go through the proper course of action, get through the investigation, and the chain of command will review the findings and make recommendations as to what type of discipline he will face.”
