Dylann Roof, the man accused of gunning down nine parishioners at a historically black church in Charleston, South Carolina, was assaulted Thursday August 4, 2016 by another inmate at the South Carolina jail where he is being held. Roof was and remains in protective custody. No one supports the actions of Dylann Roof and his fate is inevitable. No inmate could have gotten to Roof unless officers were complicit in the assault. The inmate that assaulted Roof, Dwayne Stafford, was bailed out within 24 hours almost before the news of Roof’s assault was released to the media. Initially the media stated that donations from Stafford’s supporters allowed him to bond out. This scenario would not accommodate the financial requirements of a bail bonds company to post bond. The rumor about contributions from Stafford’s supporters was proven false. Stafford left with $379 in his account. Even if Stafford had received his bail money from anonymous contributors it would not satisfy the requirements to post his bail. There are many individuals that have been incarcerated for the same length of time as Stafford whom are not getting out, not getting a speedy trial, and have not committed a felony assault while incarcerated. Motions were immediately submitted to the court after his release sealing Stafford’s documents. Stafford will have his charges dismissed or get time served. If you are wondering why this points toward your government and law enforcement as the indemnitor for the bail bond, let’s review the factors that insinuate it was your tax dollars: 1. The indemnitor (person liable for the entire $100,000 bail) for a surety bail bond is not released to the public only the bonding company. 2. Why would a private entity or civil rights group not take credit for putting up bail for Stafford since he is being hailed as a hero. 3. 24 hours was barely not enough time to prepare a statement for the media. Yet a private entity is notified and takes the action necessary to get the Stafford out on bail within this time-period. 4. A private entity risks $100,000 of assets ($10,000 up front) to bond out a repeat offender homeless man, accused of Strong Armed Robbery and Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature (ABHAN), commits ABHAN a felony assault while incarcerated, betting he will show up for court when no one was willing to do so for two years. 5. What private entity with assets of $100,000 would be willing to risk them on this scenario. Family might but they would have done so long before two years had passed. 6. Stafford was represented by a public defender before his release. After release he has a paid attorney. The news media has not reported the representation is pro bono. 7. Stafford’s assault on Roof would not place him in jeopardy with other incarcerated inmates. It is more likely the opposite would be true. 8. The media has never addressed if Dwayne Stafford will be questioned about officer involvement, if he was questioned while he was still incarcerated, or if an investigation related to officer involvement has been completed. They never will address it. 9. This begs the question, “Who had a strong motivation to get Dwayne Stafford out of jail as soon as possible and why?” 10. The “Who” or agency would have the political influence, power, and knowledge: a. To get the original charges for which Dwayne Stafford was incarcerated dismissed or have his sentence be for time served when he goes to trial. b. To prevent a felony charge against Stafford for the assault. c. To expedite Stafford’s release and keep him in isolation preventing any interrogation. d. To know Stafford’s release hinders an investigation. e. To control the outcome of an investigation (or be responsible for policing themselves might be a more accurate statement, we all know how well that works in all professions). Who could possibly have this motivation? “Could it be-e-e Law Enforcement (said while in character and voice of Church Lady from Saturday Night Live)?” Law enforcement could not pull it off without other collaborating government officials that approve or turn the other way. Quite frankly I could care less that Dwayne Stafford bonded out or that he assaulted Dylann Roof. I do care if my government paid the bond for Stafford to cover up the actions of law enforcement. Law enforcement should be held to a higher standard than the average citizen regarding compliance with the law not a lower standard. If it is not illegal it is certainly unethical if not both. Why should you care? You should care because this scenario is a prime example of how our law enforcement and government are not held accountable for abuse of power and corruption. The government officials allowing this to happen are the same ones that cover up the use of excessive force or other crimes to avoid any civil liability for such actions that the public is not willing to overlook. This is not the first time this has happened at this institution but it may be the first time for such action on a high-profile case. This process is refined and involves experienced government officials beyond law enforcement. It has been used to bail out felons awaiting trial who assaulted and hospitalized Detention Officers to cover up corrupt officer involvement. Yet the news media has not performed any investigative journalism to help ensure the welfare of the public. Only the parroting of statements from social media and law enforcement. Does it happen at Detention Centers throughout the entire country? There are poor people in jail because they cannot afford to pay the fine for a moving violation or improper equipment on their motor vehicle. They are not violent offenders. Anyone of them would have volunteered to assault Dylann Roof to get out of jail. Who would blame them. At the very least the news media should request law enforcement to setup these individuals to perform the task instead of releasing a violent offender if only to save the tax payers money for a $100,000 bond and reduced attorney fees.
