This is an extremely rare andbeautiful 1930's-40's Vermont Motor Vehicle Department Inspector badge inamazing condition. This badge is nickel plated. The Vermont Motor VehicleDepartment Inspectors were the only Statewide Motor Vehicle enforcement agencyprior to the formation of the Vermont State Police. The Vermont Highway Patrolwas formed in 1925 and had 10 Motor Vehicle Inspectors, mostly on Motorcycles,and a circle star badge was used initially. This badge is considered the 2ndissue and used from some time in the 1930's. It is estimated that there were nevermore than 20 Motor Vehicle Inspectors on patrol prior to the formation of theVermont State Police, and more often the number was closer to 12 Inspectors. The badge, also worn by the Vermont Highway Patrol, is ornately embellished,the center showing the coat of arms for Vermont - a tall evergreen in a fieldwith a cow, the mountains behind on the horizon, and detailed clouds in the skyand surrounding it reads: "VERMONT FREEDOM AND UNITY". An eagle sitsatop and beneath it reads: "INSPECTOR MOTOR VEHICLE DEPT." The verybase of the badge shows the state initials: "VT"

Badge is nickel plate and made by Everson Ross Badge Co. that has long ago gone out of business.
