Vintage U.s. Paratrooper Sterling Wings W/ Black & White Cloth Oval:
I am not sure of the age of this vintage regulation sizeU.S. "STERLING" marked U.S. BASIC PARACHUTE BADGE used by U.S. PARATROOPERS and AIRBORNE QUALIFIED PERSONNEL, it is a clutch back and manufactured by "GP" (General Products) and so stamped on the back. I cannot find when General Products manufactured U.S. Military Insignia so I cannot date them. The BLACK & WHITE CLOTH OVAL has a "gauze-like" backing and may date back to WW2. The BLACK & WHITE CLOTH OVAL was worn by the U.S. 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment in WW2, I am not sure if this is an original WW2 one or not. The "gauze-like" area on the backside shows some light shining, not sure if this is glue remnants or what. The front side of the cloth OVAL is heavily embroidered on the WHITE TRIM, the BLACK center material has a heavy diagonal design, the material looks like cotton. The cloth OVAL shows some light soiling on the WHITE TRIM and some light soiling on the back side. There are two sets of small holes on the back and front side where the wings have been pinned onto the oval, normal thing to find on these old ovals where the wings were removed and repinned on the oval when the oval was rotated 180 degrees. PLEASE NOTE, BOTH BRASS CLUTCHES ARE MARKED "APPROVED CLUTCH JAPAN".
