Officers finally charged over brutal beating caught on video

Two Prince George’s police officers were indicted on assault charges in the March 2010 beating of an unarmed University of Maryland Student that occurred after crowds took to the streets to celebrate a basketball victory.
Officers Reginald Baker and James J. Harrison also face a charges of misconduct in connection with the attack of John J. McKenna, who was 21-years-old at the time.
The March 3, 2010 incident, which was captured on video, occurred as students celebrated after Maryland’s men’s basketball team defeated Duke. The video, which has been aired nationwide, shows McKenna skipping on a sidewalk before stopping at a row of officers on horseback.
As McKenna backed up, the video shows, two Prince George’s officers in riot gear rushed him and slammed him against a concrete wall. At least one of those officers hit McKenna repeatedly with a metal police baton, the video shows.
As McKenna fell to the ground, a third officer repeatedly struck him with a baton. McKenna suffered a concussion and other injuries.
